Abstract

306,614. Misch, O. Nov. 28, 1927. Producers.-The preliminary distillation retort 1 of a producer is heated externally by means of a burner 8 at its lower end so intensely that with fuel which may be coked at 700‹ C. the temperature in the lower end is 1300‹ C. or more. The retort communicates with a shaft 10 serving as a water-gas generator into which steam from a boiler 28 and superheater 30 is injected through a pipe 12 on to the incandescent fuel descending continuously from the retort. An extension 11 into which remaining fuel descends receives air through a grate 13 together with a little steam, producer gas being drawn off by a suction device 18 for consumption at the burner 8. The watergas and retort gas are drawn into tubes 21 of a cracking chamber 16 heated by a burner 20 also receiving producer gas from the shaft 11 and thence into a purifier. Tar vapours recovered with or without bitumen or oil are collected in a tank 23 and injected by steam into the retort.
