Abstract
273,389. Davidson, T. M. March 30, 1926. Discharging. -A coal distillation retort a is mounted in a brick setting b and has an extension a<1> with a grate f provided with a bridge e. The grate is formed of triangular frames having their upper parts of stepped formation and mounted on members f<1> the frames being reciprocated by a rack f<3>. Weighted arms i retain the coke in position pending the operation of the grate. Retort furnaces.-A vertical distillation retort is heated by burning gases admitted by pipes g, Fig. 3, in the brick work b or a water-gas generator c, Fig. 1, may be used, the " blow " gases from which pass by a conduit c<1> through the hot fuel in the extension a<1> and by passages a<2>, a' into the chequered brickwork b<1>, air being admitted by passages d, d<1> to burn these gases. The " blow " gases may however be admitted directly to the brickwork.
