Abstract
226,202. Patart, G. Dec. 11, 1923, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Act]. Producerrs. - Coal, wood and peat are distilled in externally heated retorts and the residue is passed to a gas producer in which air together with steam or distillation gases from the retorts are supplied to the charge. The retorts A and producer E are of an elongated rectangular or oval cross-section and the retorts are heated bv conduits D in which combustible gas such as the gas from the producer E is burnt, the fuel being supplied to the top of the retorts and discharged either as ashes or coke continuously or intermittently. Distillation gases are withdrawn through an outlet C and producer gas from an outlet F, and these gases may be collected separately or mixed together. The producer gas may be passed through the retorts and withdrawn with the distillates through the pipe C or the distillates may be passed into the producer and withdrawn through the outlet F. To obtain a gas rich in hydrogen the distillates from the retort may be passed into the producer through pipes such as L or H instead of or together with the steam.
