Abstract
352,271. Gasefying solid fuel. HERENG, A. J. A., 12, Rue Charles Nodier, Paris. July 18, 1930, No. 21740. Convention date, July 18,1929. [Class 55(1).] Solid fuel is distilled and gasefied by being passed through a vertical retort 3 in a chamber 1, the retort being heated externally, and internally by the passage of hot gases, and the residue being conveyed on an endless belt 8 through a gasefication chamber 6, which is supplied with steam and air through inlets 10, 9 below the belt 8. The distillates from bituminous fuel are withdrawn through a conduit 5, and passed by conduit 11 through the fuel in the gasefication zone, the mixed gases being taken off by an outlet 2. A damper 14 in conjunction with a chamber 13 regulates the depth of fuel, the chamber 13 serving also as a passage for the gases. A supplementary air admission pipe 16 is for combustion of the residue. A crusher formed of counterweighted angle-irons 17 breaks up the coke from bituminous fuel. Semicoke may be used, in which case the retort serves only as a preheater for the fuel.
