Abstract

205,268. Davidson, T. M. Aug. 15, 1922. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Retorts.-In the distillation of coal and the like, the material is fed through a horizontal or inclined retort in a direction towards the zone of highest temperature and the gases evolved are withdrawn at a point adjacent that at which the residue of distillation is discharged so that the gases pass through the retort in the same direction as the charge to be distilled. A retort of the kind described in Specification 195,711 suitably modified may be employed, or a retort having zones of increasing temperature with a coke cooling zone in which the air supply for combustion of the gas for heating is heated' bv the hot coke. The final temperature may be between 500‹ and 800‹ C.
