Abstract

Coking processes.-In apparatus for distilling carbonaceous material by contact with hot gas in a closed circuit including by-product recovery plant, a valve or gas-holder is so arranged in the circuit that a portion of the gas can be withdrawn and used for further refining and for heating regenerating chambers employed for reheating the gas in the closed circuit. Hot gas is passed through a chamber 1 charged with material such as shale, peat or wood refuse and the resulting gaseous products are treated in a recovery plant 6 - - 10 the fixed gases entering a bell A and being forced by a fan 12 through a four-way valve 14, one of the heat regenerators 15, 16 and a, four-way valve 17 back to the chamber 1. A portion of the gas from the bell A is fed by a fan C<1> through a refining plant D to a furnace G and the regenerator not employed in reheating the gas from the fan 12, and the hot combustion gases escape from the chimney 18.
