Abstract
212,671. Hollings, W. W. Dec. 23, 1922. Regenerators. - Air or other gases are heated by passing them upwardly or downwardly through a vessel E<2> containing a heat transmitting medium of loose material which has been previously heated in an upper vessel E<1> through which hot burnt gases are passed either upwardly or downwardly. In the arrangement shown, hot gases enter the chamber E<1> from a main H and escape through the outlet flue J, while the air or gas to be heated enters the chamber E<2> from the main F and escapes through the main G. The passage of the heat transmitting medium through the apparatus is controlled by valves A<1>, A<2>, B<1>, B<2> and C<1>, C<2>, adjacent valves having sealing-chambers D<1>, D<2>, D<3> -respectively between them.
