Abstract

214,222. Ramage, A. S. April 9, 1923, [Convention date]. Retort furnaces.-In the low temperature distillation and subsequent gasification of coal the charge is passed through a retort comprising two portions A, B, in an opposite direction to heating gases generated during the " blow " in a gas producer C and passing through tortuous flues 15 surrounding the portion B and then partly through similar flues 4 surrounding the portion A and partly through a hollow partition 9. The heating gases enter the flues through openings 29, 30 and escape through openings 36, 21 into an outlet pipe 10. Water gas generated by the admission of steam from a pipe 28 passes up through the retort.
