Abstract
840,775. Coking. BALFOUR & CO. Ltd., H. Nov. 23, 1956, No. 35900/56. Class 55 (1). A vertical carbonization retort 1 is enclosed by a metallic brick-lined shell 2 which is laterally spaced from the retort 1. Fuel fed in at 3 is discharged after carbonization through mechanism 4. A producer gas plant 8, provided with a stepped grate 9 and supplied with a mixture of air and steam by blower 14 through pipe 15, supplies producer gas for combustion with air from pipe 16 in the space between shell 2 and retort 1, the resultant products passing out through stack 17. A portion of the producer gas flows through exhauster 13 and pipe 12 into the retort 1. Carbonization gases flow from the retort 1 through pipe 18 and scrubber 19 to pipe 23 for use, part being returned through pipe 20 and booster 21 to shaft 22 where it cools the semi-coke produced in retort 1 and flows upwardly to assist in carbonization.
