Abstract
543,116. Carbonizing-apparatus. CACCIOPPOLI, L. April 4, 1939, Nos. 10548 and 10549. Convention dates, April 6, 1938 and March 25, 1939. [Class 55 (i)] In the distillation of solid fuel the charge is subjected to graduated heating by passage in containers through an externally heated oven, the distillates being removed at intervals through the oven ceiling, and is cooled by admitting cold air to certain passages around the oven, the air thus heated being used to supply heat to the oven. The charge is conveyed through this oven on containers 5, and may be covered by weighted covers 6 having holes 7 to allow the distillates to escape through outlets 8, a compact product being obtained. The temperature is graduated so that drying first takes place, primary tars being evolved at 300 to 350‹ C. The oven is heated by the passage of hot gases through flues 2, 3 but cold gases may be passed through some of the flues 3 to prevent cracking of the primary tars. The oven may be duplicated so that superposed distilling chambers may be arranged as in Fig. 4, but these chambers may be disposed horizontally and operated in series, one conveyer passing through both.
