Abstract

216,378. Sutcliffe, E. R. July 7, 1923. Coking processes.-Coal having a high carbon content, such as steam or lean coal, is carbonized by internal heating in a retort by the passage of a heated gas through the charge to obtain a product of a character similar to anthracite. A Welsh steam coal for example is heated for eight hours, a temperature of from 750‹ to 800‹ C. being reached. A suitable retort for the process is described in Specification 166,161.
