Abstract
186,085. Illingworth, S. R. March 24, 1921. Coking processes.-In the production of smokeless fuel and coke, a blend is made of two coals or of coal and coke, semi-coke, or ore so that the resinic content of the blend is not less than 5 per cent but preferably not less than 8 per cent of the weight of the blend. This blend is heated to a temperature not exceeding 500‹ C. or to a temperature of from 50 to 100‹ C. above the minimum temperature at which the resinic matter is destroyed. To increase the contraction of the blend, the volatiles evolved between 350 and 400‹ C. should be below 7.5 per cent. Blended coals may be treated as described in Specification 175,888, that is, first preheated and then heated to 500‹ C. and the product subsequently carbonized at 900 to 1000‹ C. The products of the process described in Specification 164,104 may form part of the blend.
