Abstract

176,822. Strafford, W. W., and Pick, S. Sept. 16, 1920. Materials for making coke and other products. -Carbonaceous materials such as anthracite or coke are ground and mixed with a compound of barium such as barium carbonate and preferably a proportion of charcoal, and the mixture treated with coal, water-gas or blast furnace tar in sufficient quantity to bind the mass together, which is then heated in a retort. Tar is distilled off which is free from pitch and free carbon and a smokeless full product obtained.
