Abstract
485,083. Materials for making coke. NATIONAL COKE & OIL CO., Ltd., and STREVENS, J. L. Sept. 12, 1936, No. 24913. [Class 55 (ii)] Lump fuel comprising an intimate blend of cokes of high and lower reactivity is obtained by subjecting to low temperature carbonization a freely flowing mixture of oil and finely comminuted solid carbonaceous material yielding a highly reactive residue, in which has been incorporated a proportion of finely comminuted coke of lower reactivity such that in the final residue it is between 5 and 35 per cent of the weight of the coke of higher reactivity. The mixture may be distilled in an inclined, externally heated, rotating cylinder. Cokes utilizable in the process include fines from high or low temperature carbonization and coke from the cracking of oil and the distillation of brown coal or peat. In an example, finely disintegrated coke breeze is incorporated in a, mixture of oil and non-caking coal with or without caking coal. Specification 449,619, [Group III], is referred to. The Provisional Specification describes the carbonization of a mixture of equal weights of gas retort breeze and low temperature tar or coal-oil in apparatus as described in Specification 393,601, [Group III], and the repassage of the resulting fines through the apparatus with a mixture of fresh breeze and oil.
