Abstract
472,340. Agglomerating fuel. NATIONAL COKE & OIL CO., Ltd., and STREVENS, J. L. May 15, 1936, No. 13871. [Class 50] Coke or carbonaceous residue obtained by carbonizing a mixture of coal and oil, e.g. at 500‹ C. in a rotating cylinder, e.g. as in the processes described in Specifications 393,601 and 393,602, [both in Group III], is blended with coke fines or breeze obtained by distilling coal at high temperature, a binder is added and the mixture briquetted. Coal tar pitch, producer tar pitch, asphaltum, bitumen emulsified with colloidal dispersions with or without oil, sulphite pulp pitch, alginates or starch may constitute the binder. Up to 40 per cent of the mixture may be made up of high temperature coke. In an example, a blend of 75 per cent non-caking coal and 25 per cent caking coal is distilled with an equal weight of oil and 60 parts of the residue are mixed with 40 parts of gas retort coke crushed to a size of “ in. downwards and with 7 per cent of Mond producer tar pitch to which has been added ¢ per cent of creosote or coal oil obtained in the coal-oil distillation.
