Abstract

The process for the preparation of a solid smokeless fuel from a mixture of coking and non-coking coals claimed in the parent Specification is modified in that a mixture of coking and non-coking coal is used containing over 10 per cent ash and is ground to a fine powder to distribute the ash finely throughout the material. The ground material is incorporated with an equal proportion of oil having a boiling point above 200 DEG C., by passing it while suspended in air into the oil maintained at 65 DEG C. The p coal and oil mixture is then carbonized in a retort as described in Specification 393,601. The coking and non-coking coals may be mixed in the proportions set forth in Specification 426,645.
