Abstract

228,686. Roberts, J. Jan. 2, 1924. Addition to 187,336. Coking processes.-A mixture of a caking coal with a non-caking coal containing 20-45 per cent of volafile matter as described in the parent Specification is heated to a temperature between 760‹ and 850‹ C. Such blends of coal generally contain at least 5 per cent of matter soluble in both pyridine and chloroform. The coal is ground in the manner described in the parent Specification. In an example, a coking coal containing 7.5 per cent of matter soluble, in pyridine and chloroform is mixed in equal proportions with a non-coking coal containing 6.5 per cent of such matter the coals being crushed to pass through a sieve having 10 meshes to the linear inch. A proportion of coke breeze may be sustituted for an equal portion of the non-caking coal.
