Abstract
437,730. Coking. STREVENS, J. L., Thames House, Millbank, London, BROCKLEBANK, E. W., Fern Dell, New Penkridge Road, Cannock, Staffordshire, and MITFORD, W. B., Fleetwood, Chessington, Surrey. April 5, 1934, No. 10369. [Class 55 (ii)] In coking mixtures of oil with non-coking coal and other carbonaceous material, from 2 to 20 per cent of " gamma fraction " obtained from coking coal without decomposition, together with a wetting or peptizing agent, is added before distillation. Finely powdered non-coking coal may be sprayed with 10 per cent of oil, to which 2 per cent of " gamma fraction " has been added, and 5 per cent of a wetting or peptizing agent such as creosote oil; anthracene oil, or oleic acid may also be used. The mixture is agitated in the cold and then digested at a temperature of 300‹ C. under a pressure of 80 lbs. per square inch ; and the digested mixture, after cooling, is subjected to low temperature distillation. Specification 407,360 is referred to. The Provisional Specification refers also to the use of tars, oils, and pitches, to confer coking properties on non- coking coals.
