Abstract
1426793 Carbonaceous briquettes METALLGESELLSCHAFT AG and BERGWERKSVERBAND GmbH 8 May 1973 [12 May 1972 8 March 1973] 21970/73 Heading C5E Carbonaceous briquettes are produced by uniformly mixing fine-grained coking coal with tar pitch, mixing the resulting mixture with hot coke and/or hot anthracite so as to produce a mixture for briquetting of temperature 440 to 480 C. and containing 2-10 wt. per cent tar pitch and then briquetting the latter mixture in a double roll press. The term "tar pitch" includes also bitumens and asphalts. Coke dust, coal dust or carbon black may be initially added to the tar pitch. The tar pitch used may originate from the production of the hot coke or be liberated when the mixture of coking coal and tar pitch is mixed with the hot tar and/or hot anthracite. The briquettes may be held for 20-60 minutes at a temperature which is as close as possible to the briquetting temperature and subsequently cooled or heated and cooled in a shaft reactor.
