Abstract

1,249,413. Coking coal. COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd. 7 April, 1970 [11 April 1969], No. 18655/69. Heading C5E. Anthracite initially having a hydrogen to carbon weight ratio in excess of 0À2 is preheated to a temperature of at least 750‹ C. to reduce the ratio before being mixed with a coal charge intended for making metallurgical coke. The proportion of heated anthracite added to the charge may be 5% by weight, and it should be reduced to a size below 30 mesh B.S.S. before being mixed with the charge. Some of the anthracite may be burned during pretreatment to provide the required heat.
