Abstract

Ferrous metals are produced in a blast furnace wherein raw petroleum coke replaces at least part, e.g. 5-40%, of the standard metallurgical coke used in the charge for reducing the ore. The raw petroleum coke, which generally contains 8-20% volatile content, may be charged separate from or in admixture with the metallurgical coke. Raw petroleum coke fines may be agglomerated with starch to make briquettes prior to addition. Specification 999,351 is referred to.
