Abstract
In the continuous process for roasting arsenopyrites of the parent Specification, wherein the ore is preheated in a separate stage by direct heat exchange with a portion of the sulphur dioxide gases from the roasting stage, the preheated ore is passed to the roasting stage, and the remainder of the sulphur dioxide gases are recovered as arsenic-free gas, the preheating is at, at least, 650 DEG C., even though labile sulphur may be distilled from the ore, as well as the arsenic compounds. This ensures that the roasted ore has an arsenic content less than 0.02 per cent, and is suitable for blast furnaces.
