Abstract
Iron ore fines are mixed with a minor portion of a coal charge and coked separately from the remaining portion of the coal charge, the two portions then being used conjointly for metallurgical purposes. The minor portion may be 5-45 per cent of the total coal charge and may contain 20-65 per cent of ore fines. The ore fines may be taconite, magnetite, or haematite ore fines, or blast furnace dust. It is stated that the sulphur content of the mixed portions is less than would be present if the ore was mixed with the total coal charge and then coked. Specification 602,474 [Group XII] is referred to.
