Abstract

In a process for producing hard coke from solid fuels, a minor proportion of a solution of coal in at least one liquid pyrolysis product of a solid and/or a liquid fuel is added to a major proportion of the solid fuel to be converted into coke, the mixture being then coked. The liquid pyrolysis product may be a medium to heavy pyrolysis product of petroleum of a coal tar, pitch or oil. The solid fuel may be a mixture of cokable or non-cokable coals and may contain coke breeze. The charge material to be coked may be briquetted before being charged and petroleum or petroleum products may be added to the charge. The liquid products obtained during the coking may form all or part of the product for preparing the coal solution. In an example a mixture of 10 parts of forge coal and 1-3 parts of a coal solution was coked.
