Abstract

Foundry coke is made by charging to a coking apparatus in granular form a mixture consisting exclusively of coking coal, non coking coal and pitch such that the mixture contains more coking coal than non-coking coal and that each is separately present in greater quantity than pitch. The mixture may comprise 55% of bituminous coal, 30% of anthracite and 15% of pitch. In a modification the mixture may include petroleum coke having a relative castitments content of less than 10% in quantities below 35% based on the weight of the mixture.
