Abstract

1389268 Coking coal SUMITOMO METAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 15 June 1972 [17 June 1971] 28137/72 Heading C5E Coking coal and poor and non-coking coal are coked simultaneously in the same oven. The poor and non-coking coal is in the form of briquettes, e.g. with petroleum coke and coal tar pitch, and is charged to the oven on top of the coking coal, which is a blend of different coals, and takes up a volume of between 70% and 94% of the volume of the oven. The coking coal blend may comprise (by weight) 20% to 60% hard coal, 0 to 40% soft coal, and 0 to 50% semi-hard coal, and in an example the briquette coal comprises 60% poor coking coal, 30% petroleum coke, and 10% coal tar pitch.
