Abstract
In the carbonization of fluid coal-oil mixtures to obtain oils of low boiling point and coke an addition of pulverized coal is made to the coal-oil mixture immediately prior to or during the carbonization process. A mixture comprising equal parts of finely-ground Greek lignite (50 per cent passing through a 50 I.M.M. mesh) and Persian fuel oil containing 10 per cent coal-tar pitch is charged into a tray which is placed in a carbonizing retort. A further addition of coal pulverized so that 75 per cent passes through a 200 I.M.M. sieve and in amount equal to half of the mixture is then added by forced draught and the mixture is then carbonized. Specifications 448,028, 448,029; 448,622, [Group XII], and 454,011 are referred to.
