Abstract
236,366. Rudeman, L. June 25, 1924. Composition fuel.- In making briquettes from peat or peat and peat earth, the water content, is first reduced to about 60-65 per cent and the peat is then mixed and agitated to open the peat cells with a substance containing phenols at 100 - 400‹ C., after which a binder is added and the mixture briquetted. Waste sulphite lye containing phenols may be utilized; heavy coal tar oils treated or not with chlorine or a tar product containing phenols may be used in addition to or instead of the lye. Sulphite pitch mixed or not with coal, wood or peat tar pitch may be employed as the binder. Coal or coke dust, sawdust, furnace residues &c. may be added to the peat at any stage before briquetting. In an example 10 per cent of lye and 1 per cent of oils or tar product are mixed with finely ground pre-dried peat, and after treatment the superheated mass is subjected to a pressure of 100-400 atmospheres together with a binder consisting of 3 per cent of hard coal tar pitch.
