Abstract

414,368. Agglomerating fuel. ROBERTS, A. A., Imperial House, Kingsway, London. Oct. 26, 1932, No. 29983. [Class 50.] In the production of briquettes from powdered carbonaceous material, up to 2 per cent, preferably 1 per cent or less, of a boron compound, such as boric acid or a soluble borate, is added to the mixture in quantity insufficient to cause slagging of the ash content of the mixture. The carbonaceous material may comprise coal, coke, sawdust, tan bark, peat, lignite, anthracite or residuums. The binder may consist of 5 per cent cement ; and additional accelerators such as iron or copper oxide may be added together with antiswelling agents such as metallic chlorides. Water up to 1-1“ times the quantity of cement is used in the mixing and up to 7 per cent of emulsified bitumen may be added to the binder. The briquettes are dried at 200-350‹ F.
