Abstract
748,193. Briquetting solid fuels. BERGWERKSVERBAND ZUR VERWERTUNG VON SCHUTZRECHTEN DER KOHLENTECHNIK GES. Sept. 14, 1953 [Sept. 18, 1952], No. 25275/53. Class 50. Solid fuels, such as coal, are briquetted by coating a fine grain fraction of the fuel to be briquetted with a mineral oil in the presence of water or water vapour and mixing the thus coated fine grain fraction with the remaining fraction of the fuel to be briquetted and with a binder of pitch, hard bitumen, natural asphalt or the like, the mineral oil being an oil in which the binder is readily soluble. The fine grain fraction may comprise from 10-20 per cent of the entire quantity of fuel to be briquetted and the quantity of oil used, amounting to about ¢-1 per cent of the amount of fuel to be briquetted, is sufficient to cover with a film of oil the surfaces of all the coal particles. Coal tar oil is a suitable mineral oil and the amount of binder required is stated to be reduced from 6-7 per cent to 4 per cent of the amount of fuel to be briquetted.
