Abstract

716,653. Composition fuel. STANDARD OIL DEVELOPMENT CO. March 26, 1953 [April 25, 1952], No. 10471/52. Class 50 Coal fines with a moisture content above 8 per cent by weight are briquetted with a bituminous binder, a small amount of a powdered drying additive being introduced into the coal feed to render unnecessary a predrying of the fines. The additives may comprise quicklime, hydrated lime, cement, chalk, gypsum or electrolytic compounds such as salt or ferric ch'oride. A prepared additive is hydrated lime in proportions of 0.2-5 per cent ot the fines. A process as described in Specification 634,590, [Group II], in which the fines are caused to fall through a mist of an atomized spray of a liquified normally solid binder may be employed.
