Abstract

414,365. Agglomerating fuel. ROBERTS, A. A., Imperial House, Kingsway, London. Oct. 26, 1932, No. 29980. [Class 50.] In the manufacture of a briquette from carbonaceous material, the ash content of the material is estimated by analysis, dry cement is added as a combustion retarder and boric acid as a combustion accelerator in sufficient quantity to compensate for the retarder but insufficient to cause slagging of the ash. The preferred quantity of boric acid consists of 1/24-1/12th of the ash content. In examples a coal containing 6 per cent ash is mixed with 2À4 per cent dry cement by weight and “-¢ per cent boric acid; a coal containing 12 per cent ash, with 3-6 per cent cement and ¢-1 per cent boric acid, with or without emulsified bitumen and water respectively. The carbonaceous material may comprise coal, coke, sawdust, tan bark, peat, lignite, anthracite and carbonaceous residuums.
