Coking processes.-Waste fuel such as coal dust, coke dust, or peat moss is mixed with tar in a mixer G formed into briquettes by comprsssion by plungers O and delivered through a heated duct P and over a heated silica surface H into a retort B heated by a producer E. A temperature of 1500‹ is maintained at the silica slope H and from 1500‹ to 2000‹ C. in the retort, the hardness of the coked product depending upon the time the fuel is allowed to remain in the retort. The surfaces of the briquettes are hardened so that they do not disintegrate in the retort, and the tar is distilled off with towns' gas and benzol. The coked briquette is cooled in an extension C and discharged automatically.
