Abstract

212,663. Illingworth, S. R. Dec. 18, 1922. Coking processes.-Coal or a blend thereof, or a preheated coal such as is described in Specifications 164,104 and 186,085, is mixed with 5 per cent of pitch, pressed into briquettes, and heated to 50 to 100‹ C. above the temperature of decomposition of the resinic matter in the coal. The temperature is not above 600‹ C. when a light pitch is employed, and with a heavy pitch is below 750‹ C. The briquettes may subsequently be heated to a higher temperature of 900 to 1000‹ C. if desired. Specifications 140,821, 198,503, and 206,542, also are referred to.
