Be it known that I, EUGEN DOLENSKY', a citizen of Austrian Empire, residing at Q Frankfort-on-the-Main, in the county of Hesse-Nassau and State of Prussia, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Processes for Producing Gas of Bituminous Fuel Mixed by the Gas the gases produced in the coked layer of fuel by the addition of steam. v t
In previous processesand apparatus, during the blast, the air has been introduced at the lower end ofthe, fuelcolumn so that the hottest point was produced at the foot of the coke layer hence in'the gasification period, the gases entered the coal layer par; tially cooled and effected, only an incomplete gasilication. v g In the present process, the hottest part of the combustion columnlies on the border line between the layer of coke and the layer of green coal. For this reason, according to the present invention, therequisite combusf tion air is blown in, during the hot'fblast period, not underneath or. above,butapproximately I at the boundary between the already coked fuel and the still present green coal, and the combustion products are drawn oil at the lower endof the fuel column. i i y In the gasification period which :follows, steam is then forced throughout the entire column of fuel. By this process, during the ponents,-such as tar, benzol and such, by the passage of the combustion products. Moreover, the steam. afterpassing through the coked. fuel column, is further passed through the uncoked column in the generator apparatus, through which immediately previously the passage of the hot combustion products took, place. With generators of this kind the eflicient heating of the coke column is realized, by havingthe lower portion of the shaft o0 cupied by the coke-column subdiyided by a fire-bridge of'any. suitable height whose crown does not reach the zone separating the columns of coke and coal whereby it is possible to blow the coke-column alternately hot from both sides, from below, upward, and then again from above, down- Ward, and vice versa respectively, without the necessity of providing diflicult and troublesome air inlets and ports in the middleof the shaft for leading ofithe burnt gases, but in case-of necessity, there may be provided inthe neighborhood of the zone separating the columns of coal and coke, further. air inletsfor the purpose of pro ducing at this place the hottest mass of coke and ofobtaining, by the'outlets and inlets distributed over the whole section as rendered necessary by; the planes or slopes 9f the in r.. -ti sq generator is rendered "very easy, as the coke column may be brought at will to red heat, without the necessity of inserting an auxiliary chimney. And even in those cases, where during the gassing operation at the zone separating the coke-column from the coal column, air is in the known manner blown into the passing steam, this form of construction of the shaft may be advantageously made use of.
Furthermore, by using such a generator the important technical effects can be attained that the bottoms of the generator are heated to the necessary temperature by the grate, a far better uniformity of heatalternate blowing from below upward and then from above downward, and vice versa and the slag is easily removed inasmuch as by the reversed current of air itis drawn to the place where the air enters, at the ashhole.
