Abstract
376,072. Coking processes. METALLGES. AKT.-GES., 45, Bockenheimer Anlage, Frankfort-on-Main, Germany. Aug. 26, 1931, No. 24030. Convention date, Sept. 11, 1930. [Class 55 (i).] In a process of high or low temperature carbonization, fuel is fed from a hopper 1 on to a travelling grate 9, and is ignited by a device 3, the coking taking place by partial combustion at the surface of the charge in air drawn by suction boxes 4 through the charge. The ignited fuel is cooled and extinguished by water sprays 5, and the coke is discharged on to a grating 6, the fines falling into a hopper 7. A layer of foundation material may be fed on to the grate from a hopper 2, and the charge may be disposed in several layers of different fuels, or a mixture of fuels may be employed. The distillates may be drawn off separately at various points along the grate. Other gases, for example those obtained from the process, may be mixed with the air passed through the fuel. Large quantities of combustible gases may be obtained by allowing the gasification to proceed concurrently and at the expense of the carbonization process.
