Abstract
503,509. Gas-producers. MAUTHNER, D. July 2, 1937, No. 18464. Void. Convention date, July 2, 1936. [Class 66 (i)] In a gas-produce provided with a pre distillation retort in dependent therefrom the gases evolved fron the retort are collected in a downward direc tion and led below the grate of the generator and the gases produced in the latter are withdrawn through an annular space surrounding the retort. Tars &c. are thus removed from the fuel in the retort before its admission to the generator, and the predistillation gases are converted to permanent gases by their passage through the fuel bed of the generator. The pre-distillation retort 2 which surrounds a tube 5 for direct supply of fuel to the generator and is closed at its base by a counterweighted bell-shaped valve 3, is provided with superposed annular rings 7 of conical crosssection through which the gases are withdrawn by the suction of the generator and led through a pipe 19 to below the grate 20 where they mix with the air supply to the generator from a pipe 16 which communicates with a jacket 15 surrounding the firebox 13 in which the air is preheated. The generator gas is withdrawn through the annular chamber 22 between the retort and the generator wall and also through the supply tube 5 to an off-take 24. The predistilled fuel from the retort is periodically admitted to the generator which is initially supplied with tar-free fuel, such as charcoal. Separate hoppers 9 and 8 are provided, the latter leading first to a pre-heating chamber 12. To increase the temperature of the retort, such as to 700‹ C., air may be admitted thereto through an inlet 25, the base fuel in the retort becoming incandescent. Steam may be also supplied through an inlet 34. The tube 5 may be kept filled with charcoal to filter the generator gas. Liquid fuels may be supplied from a hopper 29. Specification 457,657, [Group XXVII], is referred to.
