Abstract
367,812. Oil gas and water gas generation. JONES, L. B., 58, Sutter Street, San Francisco, U.S.A. Aug. 15, 1930, No. 24543. [Class 55 (i).] In the production of oil gas in admixture with water gas, oil is cracked in a checkerwork chamber previously heated by combustion of the " blow gas " from a fuel bed, and the gas is filtered through a fuel bed which has previously been cooled to below the cracking temperature by steaming. In the first half of a cycle, the " blow " gases from a fuel bed 28 pass to the cracking chambers 16, 15, and after combustion therein escape by a damper 20 ; secondary air is admitted at 24. The fuel bed is now steamed, and simultaneously oil is injected into the chamber 16 through a valve 22<1> and the oil gas formed mixes with the " run " gases from the fuel bed, and the mixture with entrained carbon passes into the fuel bed 27, which has been steamed during the previous "run" ; its temperature may be from 1200‹ to 1500‹ F. The second half of the cycle is carried out in the reverse direction, the fuel bed 27 being blasted and steamed and the fuel bed 28 being already cooled below the cracking temperature. In a modified system of working the apparatus is combined with a tar scrubber, from which tar, condensed from the oil gas, is pumped to the fuel chamber which at the instant is acting as the filter bed.
