693,433. Recovering dry tar from producer gas or water gas. SCHUSSL, F. April 5, 1950 [April 11, 1949], No. 8554/50. Class 55(i) In the gasification with air or oxygen and steam of fuels containing over 25 per cent of moisture, a water free tar is obtained by preheating the gasifying agents by mixing them with hot combustion products to such an extent that the gases leaving the producer or generator are at a sufficiently high temperature to allow tar to be separated without simultaneous condensation of water. A producer 1 is fed with wet lignite at the top and with air mixed with hot combustion products at the bottom. The combustion products are made in a burner 5 supplied with air through a pipe 4 and oil, or part of the tar produced, through a pipe 9 and are injected into the main air supply pipe 2 through a pipe 6. The gases generated leave the producer through a pipe 7 at a high temperature and pass to an electrofilter 8 wherein tar is removed whilst the gas temperature remains well above its dewpoint.
