687,919. Gasifying coke. METALLGES. AKT.- GES. Nov. 30, 1951 [Dec. 9, 1950], No. 28181/51. Addition to 676,391. Class 55 (i). The process according to the parent Specification so far as it is applied to the gasification of carbonaceous fuel, is modified in that coke is used as the starting material instead of a bituminous fuel. Any coke may be used but a reactive coke produced by carbonizing pulverulent coal by the parent process is particularly suitable. The coke is gasified with steam and/or carbon dioxide, or steam and air or oxygen enriched air, and the resulting gases, of the character of water gas, may be used for synthesis purposes. Alternatively, coke produced by carbonizing finely-ground coal in a cyclone chamber under ash-fluxing conditions may be used.
