Abstract

626,743. Water-gas generation. ARNOLD, J. C. (Standard Oil Development Co.). Feb. 14, 1947, No. 4403. Drawings to Specification. [Class 55 (i)] A water-gas process comprises passing steam into a zone containing a fluidized bed of finely divided solid carbonaceous material having an oxidationreactivity of T 15 =200-250‹ C., and T 75 =250-300‹C. as determined by the method described by Sebastian and Mayers (Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol. 29, page 1,118), removing the residual solids and treating the removed solids in the form of a fluidized mass " with an oxidizing gas to burn off the residual carbonaceous material " and returning the heated residues to the water-gas zone to supply at least part of the heat for the water-gas reaction. In a preferred form of the invention the solid carbonaceous material is a low temperature coke, preferably obtained by a fluidized carbonization process at a temperature within the range 600-950‹ F. and the gasification reaction is carried out at a pressure atove 40 lb. per square inch.
