Abstract
716,740. Manufacturing gas. BRUGGEMANN, E. A. May 22, 1952 [May 22, 1951], No. 13039/52. Classes 55 (1) and 55 (2) . In a process for the complete gasification of solid fuel using steam and air with or without added oxygen as the gasifying medium, the gasification reaction is carried out under pressure and at a temperature not exceeding 775‹ C. in the presence of lime which reacts exothermically with the carbon dioxide evolved, thereby generating part of the heat required for the reaction.. The lime may be introdu:ed with the fuel into a fixed or fluidized bed, the calcium carbonate formed being withdrawn with a sufficient content of char to allow it to be regenerated to calcium oxide by passing air through the ignited mass. Alternatively, the gasification reaction and the CaO+CO 2 reaction may be carried out in separate vessels, the CaO then being regenerated in situ by means of an air-fuel mixture. In an example, 100 tons of brown coal and 220 tons of lime were reacted at 350 lbs. per sq. inch pressure with 140 tons of steam to produce 3.8 million cubic feet of gas of composition in per centages by volume of CO 2 -0.5, CO-2.5 ; H 2 -49.3 ; CH,-47.7.
