Abstract
364,407. Gas producers. METALLGES. AKT. - GES., 45, Bockenheimer Anlage, Frankfort-on-Main, Germany. Feb. 23,1931, No. 5692. Convention date, March 10, 1930. [Classes 55 (i) and 55 (ii).] A combustible gas rich in hydrogen and methane is obtained by gasifying fuels, under elevated pressure, with oxygen and an excess of steam. A pressure of 10-30 atmospheres or higher may be used, and 5-10 volumes of steam to one of oxygen. No further compression is necessary for remote supply or purification. The fuel, which may be inferior brown coal, is charged into a producer 1 through an air sealed chamber 3, and is supported on a table 5 carrying an eccentrically rotating agitating member 6. The ash is discharged on to plates 12 which remove them to an air sealed discharging chamber 4. Both charging and discharging chambers 3, 4 are doubly sealed. The blast mixture from an inlet 13 passes to the fuel column through channels 25. Catalysts such as metals or metal oxides may be added to the fuel.
