687,917. Carbonizing and gasifying fuel. METALLGES. AKT.-GES. Nov. 26,1951 [Nov. 29,1950], No. 27715/51. Addition to 676,391. Class 55 (i). The process according to the parent Specification, as applied to the carbonisation or gasification of fuel, is improved in that the carbon containing dust entrained in the make gases is extracted and utilised to heat the heat carrier. The dust may be burnt and the hot combustion gases passed through the heat carrier. Preferably, however, and particularly when the ash is fusible, a combustible gas is made from the dust by gasifying it with air and possibly steam in a cyclone chamber with a fluid slag discharge, the gas, after purification from dust in an electro-filter or washer, being burnt and the clean combustion products led through the heat carrier.
