792,880. Degasefying coal. STEINKOHLENELEKTRIZITAT AKT.-GES. Jan. 11, 1956 [Jan. 14, 1955], No. 1031/56. Class 55 (1). In a process of degasefying finely-divided coal while in suspension in a gas, a hot gas is produced by burning tar or other hydrocarbons outside the degasefying chamber and is mixed with a circulating stream of product gas forming a carrier gas for the coal to be degasefied, heat being subsequently recovered from the gas mixture. In the drawing coal is fed from a hopper 1 through a preheater 3 into a degasefying chamber 4 supplied with recirculated product gas at 14 and hot combustion gases from tar combusted in burner 13 with air preheated in a heat exchanger 11 and a jacket 12 surrounding the degasefying chamber 4. Solid and gaseous products mixed with the carrier gas pass from the chamber 4 through a heat exchanger 11, a separator 5 for removal of coke, a heat exchanger 6, a second separator 7 and a purifying installation 8. A blower 9 recycles some of the product gas through heat exchangers 6 and 10, while the installation 8 supplies tar through heat exchanger 10 to the burner 13.
