Abstract

1411022 Carbon black furnace CONTINENTAL CARBON CO 9 May 1973 22173/73 Heading C1A Carbon black is produced by the thermal decomposition of a hydrocarbon feedstock in a reactor in which a fuel gas is burnt in air in a cylindrical primary reactor section (5) to decompose the hydrocarbon feedstock to carbon black which passes longitudinally along the reactor to a cylindrical secondary reactor section, having a greater diameter than the primary reactor into the upstream section of which is injected peripherally, in a longitudinal direction at 57, secondary combustion gases to supply heat sufficient to further the growth of the carbon black particles but insufficient to re-initiate the carbon particle nucleation.
