Abstract

871,000. Burning pulverulent fuel; coking apparatus. COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd. Oct. 31, 1957 [Nov. 2, 1956; Aug. 9, 1957], Nos. 33516/56 and 25212/57. Classes 51 (1) and 55 (1). [Also in Group XIII] Granular material, such as pulverulent coal, is heated, dried or carbonized in a fluidized bed 4 surrounding a combustion chamber 1 in which fuel is burnt in a fluidized bed 3 of refractory particles. The fuel used may be coal gas, or pulverulent coal, or pulverulent coal and coal gas. The refractory bed 3 comprises silica particles, and the combustion gases are passed to a heat-exchanger 7 to preheat the gases used for fluidizing the bed 4. In a modification, Fig. 3, the gases from the combustion chamber 1 are fed through a cyclone separator 14 to the lower part of the bed 4 to form the fluidizing gases.
