Abstract
858,462. Furnaces; ash pits. COMPAGNIE DES METAUX D'OVERPELT-LOMMEL ET DE CORPHALIE. March 24, 1958, No. 9303/58. Class 51 (1). Pulverized carbonaceous shale of very low calorific value is burnt in a fluidized bed 3, the combustion air having absorbed most of the sensible heat of the ashes. Air under pressure passes through inclined perforated plates 9, 10, 11 independently or in series, being heated by its passage through the beds of burnt shale which are thus moved along the plates 9, 10, 11 to the discharge hopper 18 and screw 19. The hot air is collected in an annular space 20 surrounding the plate 9, 10, 11 and maintains the fluidity of the combustion bed 3. Ashes swept off by the gaseous combustion products are collected in a cyclone 6 and returned by a screw feed 22 to upper ash plate 9.
