586,635. Steam generator &c. furnaces. SPLADIS SOC. POUR L'APPLICATION D'INVENTIONS SCIENTIFIQUES. Feb. 16, 1944, No. 2919. Convention date, July 15, 1943. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Aug. 18, 1944] [Class 51 (i)] In a furnace for heating steam generators &c. a pocket 11 with sloping sides is formed in the fuel bed 5 by the provision of a conical member 9, the surface of the sloping sides is swept by air entering through downwardly and tangentially directed nozzles 13 and the resulting combustion gases being evacuated upwardly through the member 9 and delivered to the steam generator &c. through pipe 7. Additional radial air supply nozzles 14, 20 are provided to ensure respectively combustion at the bottom of the pocket 11 and complete combustion in the outgoing hot gases. The member 9 has a jacket 8 with which communicate the nozzles 13, 14, 20 and to which the combustion air is supplied from 'a partitioned heating jacket 17 surrounding the furnace. Ashes are discharged by a conical plate 21 which is oscillated through a link 23 by a reciprocating rod 25 and has radial ribs 26 on its upper surface. A tube 27 having a cover 28 is provided for the introduction of kindling material into the pocket 11.
