Abstract

365,967. Turning gear. BASART, A. H. M., 77, Klimopstraat, The Hague. June 18, 1931, No. 17670. Convention date, June 18, 1930. [Class 7 (v).] Variable-speed gearing suitable for motor vehicles comprises a self-locking worm or like epicyclic train controlled by auxiliary driving- means, which is adapted for starting the engine. Worms 8 on shafts 5 parallel to the driving-shaft 2 are supported in a casing 6 fast on the driven shaft 7. Planet gears 4 on the shafts 5 mesh with a sun gear 3 fast on the shaft 2 leading from the engine 1. Worm or spiral wheels 9 engaging the worms 8 are connected by radial shafts 10 and bevel gears 11, 12 to the armature 13 of an auxiliary electric motor 14 which is used for varying the speed of the vehicle. The motor 14 can be used to start the internal-combustion engine 1 by holding the casing 6 by a brake 15.
